AMERICAN GRADUATE COMMUNITY TOWN HALL BROADCAST

Watch the broadcast of our American Graduate Community Town Hall. This event, recorded in the CET studios on February 17th with a live audience, discusses regional education issues. The program is part of American Graduate: Let’s Make it Happen, a public media initiative made possible by the Corporation for Public Broadcasting.

The town hall event builds upon the success of last year’s Cradle to Career: Moving the Needle in Education, while bringing together a broader group of community stakeholders, including businesses, parents, students, policy-makers, intervention and faith-based organizations in a town hall setting. The event will have the goal of identifying the challenges students face beyond the classroom, and moving toward developing community-based solutions that support students’ success in school.

CET has worked closely with the PBS NewsHour on production of the town hall, and Jeffrey Brown, award-winning journalist and anchor of the evening news program, will be moderating the discussion. Dr. O’dell Owens, Ohio State Representative Alicia Reece, CPS School Board Member Daniel Minera, and Toyota Manager of Community Relations Helen Carroll are among invited guests slated to appear.

There will also be a live tweet-up about the organizations and issues being discussed with the hashtag #AmGradCincy during the broadcast. The program will be available for online viewing following the airdate.

CET is one of 12 public media stations across the country holding similar forums this winter. Locally, CET will be focusing on three key themes: early learning, the teaching profession, and making connections between K-12 education and college/career. Results of each station’s town hall will also be utilized to inform a final national report of recommendations for local and national action plans to lower the dropout rate.
